Hogs have a protective sheet of armor plating, which is approximately 1/4" to nearly 2-1/2" thick, that goes from their shoulders down to the back of their ribs. It is a high-density layer of fat. Only boars possess this armor. Sows do not have it. Arrows sometimes do not penetrate this armor but will bounce off or just stick into the armor. The hog is still alive, and now he is mad.
